Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery (BD/DR):

“We've all seen what happens in the case of hurricanes and terrorist attacks. Now there's talk of a flu pandemic. I know I need to be prepared to continue the business if something happens, but what does that mean from an IT standpoint, and how much will it cost?"

Service areas involved:

Process Management
Risk Management
Architecture
Financial Management

Key Issue:

Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery

Business continuity preparation is as much, if not more, about preparing business processes for extended interruption as it is about being able to restore IT systems. The key is to understand the probability and potential impact from the loss of a key site or service, the business cost of downtime, how business operations might be maintained during the interruption, and how quickly the various business sites and services must be restored to minimize damage to the organization. From this information a cost effective, workable, and testable procedure can be developed along with a supporting IT architecture.

Ingenuity's principals have handled several such scenarios in the past and can help you think through the needs, costs, and benefits. Please see our Hurricane Katrina Communications success story to learn more about our capabilities.

Value Chain Integration & Partnering:

“My downstream customers are demanding access to my systems to check order and shipping status. I want the same capabilities from my upstream suppliers. I know it can be done, but what does it really take to accomplish, and how do I get it done?”

Service areas involved:

Process Management
Architecture
IT Management

Key Issue:

Value Chain Integration & Partnering

Inter-company integration of IT systems is definitely within reach, but it will likely require several changes if it has not been done before in your organization. It is dependent on three inter-related areas: a compatible IT architecture (in particular, in the infrastructure and security aspects), the right business and IT processes, and a strong partner relationship management capability.

"Strong, capable IT leadership will differentiate IS organizations that disappear into the back office of utility services from those that capitalize on opportunities."
